Heart of Gold
Having already gone on record as absolutely loving Blaze of Glory by Michael Pryor, I was a little bit nervous to read the second installment in the Laws of Magic Trilogy, entitled Heart of Gold. Not being a devoted fan of the science fiction or fantasy genre, I didn’t believe that Pryor would be able to better or even equal his first outing with Aubrey Fitzwilliam and his faithful friend, George. However, happily, I was wrong. Heart of Gold is indeed another great read, which I also could not put down. The second novel continues the themes of conspiracy, magic and political unrest but moves the action to Lutetia, the capital of Gallia, where Aubrey and George have gone for a holiday. Our two heroes don’t really have much a holiday as they are capering all over the capital, solving royal mysteries, obtaining old love letters, trying to locate a missing ornithologist, all whilst Aubrey is desperately trying to discover a cure for his condition, which worsens by the hour… Congratulations to Michael Pryor on another fantastic book! Bring on the third installment!! And the fourth and fifth and sixth!!!
